Hao Bin, a woman in the Chinese province of Hunan, thought she had found the perfect place to stash the wages for her husband’s staff, approximately $30,000. The woman hid the large amount of money in the oven, but forgot about it and set the money on fire while boiling water for tea the next day. When she realized what she did, she rushed to extinguish the flames, but was too late. Bank of China officials stated that they can only replace the banknotes that are more than 50% intact. In China, the majority of people still doesn’t trust the banking system, and prefers to hide money at home.
