Wangwang, an 8-year-old German Shepherd, once served as a sniffer dog at a security checkpoint in Xichuan County, China. In June 2019, the devoted dog retired, parting ways with her handler.
After retirement, Wangwang was adopted by a caring family, while her former handler continued working as a patrol officer. Last month, while on duty near her new home, he decided to stop by and visit his old partner.
Their reunion was deeply emotional. As soon as Wangwang saw him, she ran toward him with excitement—but soon became overwhelmed, unable to hold back her tears. In a heartwarming video shared by Xichuan police on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, the retired dog can be seen joyfully circling her former trainer before breaking down in emotion.
“Wangwang’s fur has turned white, but she’s eating well and has gained some weight,” the post noted. “It’s always hard to say goodbye to friends.”
The touching reunion captured the hearts of viewers online. “Dogs are incredibly loyal companions—please treat them kindly,” one user commented. Another wrote, “You can really see how much Wangwang missed her handler. The way she greets him says it all.”
