Katie Knowles dreamed of becoming a model since she was just a child. But at age 16, doctors diagnosed her with degenerative disc disease, a disease which usually occurs in the elderly. The disease made Katie unable to use her legs. She underwent an operation at age 20, but woke up paralyzed from the waist down. After going through grueling physiotherapy sessions, now, at age 24, she finally fulfilled her dream of being a model. However, she is still struggling with the disease. “I still use crutches and on bad days I may need a wheelchair, but I will not let that stop me,” she said.
