She’ll NEVER watch horror movies with me again after this

The lights were low, the popcorn was cold, and the tension in the living room was thick enough to cut with a pulse rifle. It was “Movie Night: Essentials Edition,” and my girlfriend was finally experiencing the claustrophobic dread of Aliens for the first time.

She was huddled under the duvet, eyes wide, gripping my arm like a life buoy as Ripley navigated the dark, dripping corridors of LV-426.

The Perfect Storm

On screen, the motion tracker began its frantic, high-pitched chirp-chirp-chirp. The distance was closing.

  • The Movie: A Xenomorph hissed, ready to strike.

  • The Girlfriend: Held her breath, paralyzed.

  • The Reality: I had completely forgotten that Mochi, our sugar glider, was enjoying some supervised “out-of-cage” time.

Then, it happened. The jump scare hit the screen. My girlfriend let out a genuine, soul-piercing scream—the kind that signals a predator is in the room.

The Ambush

Hearing the commotion and seeing a moving target, Mochi decided it was her time to shine. From her perch atop the tall cage in the corner, she launched. With her patagium spread wide, she looked less like a cute marsupial and more like a leathery, grey shadow descending from the ceiling.

She landed—with perfect, horrifying precision—right on my girlfriend’s face.

The reaction was cinematic. There was a second, even louder scream, a flurry of blankets, and a brief moment where I thought my girlfriend might actually transcend to another dimension. I was frozen, halfway between “Are you okay?” and “Oh my god, the timing.”

A Legacy is Born

Once the lights were flicked on and we realized nobody had actually been impregnated by an extraterrestrial embryo, the shaking turned into hysterical laughter. Mochi, meanwhile, just sat on the sofa cushion looking incredibly proud of her tactical maneuver.

From that night on, her formal name was retired. She wasn’t Mochi anymore. To my girlfriend—and everyone who heard the story—she was known simply as The Facehugger.

It was a title she wore with pride, usually while begging for a piece of dried mango.
